The Beach

Teignmouth Main Beach is a ENCAMS Resort Seaside Award Winning Beach 2006

Teignmouth's Main Beach is a long sandy beach stretching from the mouth of the estuary (from the River Teign) and heading east towards Dawlish. The beach is perfect for all activities with a mix of shingle and sand.  The views out to sea are amazing. To the east the famous Jurassic Coastline. On a clear day spot Portland Bill. To the west the stunning red coastline of Torbay and Berry Head in the far distance.
The beach slopes very gently towards the sea and currently has a large sandbar forming on the estuary side of the pier, which can cause problems for lifeguards in the summer as swimmers and walkers can get cut off as the tide surges back in.

The beach has subtle dangers such as the strong rip currents that can form on either sides of the pier and when the surf picks up the waves can tend to dump violently on the beach knocking swimmers off there feet.

However Teignmouth tends to be a very placid and calm beach which is perfect for families and anyone who enjoys the water.
