ALWAYS

  • Read information notices
  • Swim between the red and yellow flags on patrolled beaches
  • Leave the water if you feel tired or unwell
  • Take advice Listen to Lifeguards.
  • Always stay in sight of friends and family on the beach.
  • Whilst surfing, line yourself up with an object on the shore and keep checking to see if you are drifting.
  • Always watch the surf for 10 minutes before you go in.
  • Know what times the tides are.

NEVER

 

 

  • Go in the sea on your own.
  • Overestimate your ability.
  • Swim until at least one hour after eating
  • Swim after drinking alcohol
  • Swim when a red flag is flying
  • Stay in the water when you start to feel cold.
  • Leave children unsupervised
  • Snorkel unless you are a good swimmer
  • Never undo the leash to your surf or bodyboard - it will help keep you afloat.
  • Put yourself in danger of being cut off by the tide
  • Sit under cliffs
  • Play or climb on cliffs
  • Go near cliff edges.
  • Never jump off rocks into the sea.
  • Use inflatables in the sea
