General Guidelines
ALWAYS
- Read information notices
- Swim between the red and yellow flags on patrolled beaches
- Leave the water if you feel tired or unwell
- Take advice Listen to Lifeguards.
- Always stay in sight of friends and family on the beach.
- Whilst surfing, line yourself up with an object on the shore and keep checking to see if you are drifting.
- Always watch the surf for 10 minutes before you go in.
- Know what times the tides are.
NEVER
- Go in the sea on your own.
- Overestimate your ability.
- Swim until at least one hour after eating
- Swim after drinking alcohol
- Swim when a red flag is flying
- Stay in the water when you start to feel cold.
- Leave children unsupervised
- Snorkel unless you are a good swimmer
- Never undo the leash to your surf or bodyboard - it will help keep you afloat.
- Put yourself in danger of being cut off by the tide
- Sit under cliffs
- Play or climb on cliffs
- Go near cliff edges.
- Never jump off rocks into the sea.
- Use inflatables in the sea
