New Members are welcome and are entitled to two taster training sessions
before deciding to join. The membership runs from January every year, fees
are £40 for both Seniors (16yrs+) and Juniors. Our yearly membership offers training, equipment and
Liability & Personal Accident insurance with SLSA GB.
All prospective new members will be required to take a short assessment to
evaluate their swimming ability and once passed you are free to join. We
would encourage you to attend a local swimming club to improve your swimming and
general fitness.
Surf Life Saving is one of the few sports that has a practical use in
everyday life, skills learnt here will stay with you for the rest of your life
and one day you may need them whether its to save a family member, friend or
even a total stranger.
Training sessions take place every Sunday at 10am throughout the year, with
additional training sessions through the summer and for those working towards a
qualification. All training sessions are run by qualified beach lifeguards
and are generally practical based, with the emphases on safety and fun skills
are learnt in a friendly informative environment.
You will need to bring a towel, swimming stuff and a wetsuit (if you have
one) we have a limited number of club wetsuits which can be borrowed as a short
term measure.
The NARS Beach Lifeguard Award is an internationally recognised
qualification. Once you are qualified you can apply for employment with
local authorities or the RNLI. Many of our senior members are or have been
paid lifeguards at local beaches such as Dawlish Warren and Teignmouth.
